Zen Crafter asked if the beautiful mansion in my Halloween post was actually our home. We live in a much more modest abode as you can see. If we didn't have such heinous winters in Chicago I would say this is the most perfect place on earth! We can walk to the sandy beaches of Lake Michigan, the train station, a quaint little shopping area with a sloppy joe restaurant and a weekly farmer's market. We can hear the music from Ravinia Music Festival from our backyard during the summer and some of the most wonderful museums are a short train ride away. My kids have trick-or-treated at the homes of Michael Jordan and Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins). The best part of living here is the annual spring trash pick up! People throw away the most wonderful furniture in the spring. I have a friend who has furnished every room in her home with chandeliers that she retrieved from the curb. I gave my sister a set of beautiful wrought iron patio furniture that I rescued from the garbage truck! I have to remember to feel grateful for all of this in January when it is 20 below zero with 40 mile per hour winds.

Our Home

I'm coming to live with you. No worries... I'll bring my own towels and learn to love the snow. All I need to know is if I'm too old to trick-or-treat in your neighborhood? Seems I've been missing out...

Thanks for sharing the photo of your gorgeous home; it certainly matches the elegant interior! It's definitely not as spooky as the sepia-toned haunted mansion in your earlier post!
If not boarders, then maybe the occasional B&B guest? You could arrange trash tours during the spring toss-out.

I've always wanted to go to Chicago. My daddy used to go to a work meeting there every December and bring back stories of SNOW! It sounded like heaven to North Carolina kids!

Oh Linda, your home is beautiful. And even if Chicago is cold in the winter, I would still sacrifice that period of time to life in such surroundings =).
Any room for me? I experienced many South Dakota winters so I should be fine - learned to dry my hair before going outside and won't ever fall for that licking the slide trick again. Absolutely lovely home and description - don't ever move to LA if you were thinking of it!

I was looking over your wonderful post and recognized your home although not the exact location. After reading every word I realized we had to have been neighbors. I lived in Highland Park across from the Chicago Botanic Garden... right on Lake Cook Road... I miss Micheals Hot dogs... I live in sunny warm California now and I must admit I love it.
