Golden Age of Illustration

These beautiful illustrations are the work of a little known Brooklyn born artist,
Ethel McClellan Plummer, 1888-1936. She worked during the Golden Age of Illustration in America which lasted from 1880 until the end of World War I. There was a boom in illustrations, as the popularity and demand for newspapers, magazines and illustrated books grew. Technology was also vastly improving which allowed for colorful reproductions of art in mass produced publications. I adore the simplicity of Ethel's drawings, they remind me of of the wonderful work of my friend Vivienne Strauss.

Hi my pal, Linda! It is so good to be home and have a chance to do some skimming in the first attempt to get caught up on my blog buddies. I knew you would be a challenge to get caught up with and I was right - so many scrumptious posts that I will be visiting awhile to soak in!

Thank you for your friendship and support, Linda. You are one of my oldest blog buddies and I so appreciate you and have missed your lovely perspective of all the beauty in this life.

This must be a dream to be able to put a few spots of paint, draw a few lines et voilà, a beautiful drawing.
Thanks for sharing!

I love that style--so simple with just a few elegant lines--but still so detailed.
