Souvenir Beaded Belts

Does anyone else out there in blogland collect souvenir beaded belts? We probably have about twenty belts and they are getting extremely hard to find. The belts in our collection don't have to be vintage but that is an added plus! This summer we dove across the country to Mount Rushmore. We thought the souvenir shops around Mount Rushmore would certainly have beaded belts, nope we were wrong. The Corn Palace and Crazy Horse were also big disappointments in the belt department. I guess the souvenir belt has taken the same road to extinction as the souvenir felt pennant.

I used to live in SD - went to high school in Pierre and college in Vermillion at USD! The closest orthodontist was in Rapid City, 3 hours from Pierre. Many a stop at Wall Drug along the way. Did you try there? I'd bet my bottom dollar they would've had one - but it's worth the stop anyway - souveniers galore and photo ops link none other. If I go for my high school reunion next summer, I'll stop and look and send you one if they do. Always enjoy your blog.

Marsha-
Thank you. We did stop at Wall Drugs and found a belt there!!!! They only had belts that said Wall Drugs, so we picked one up.

Oh my! I had beaded belts as a child--we moved to Wyoming from Wisconsin and it seemed a rite of passage to own them along with those horrid Native American dolls with the costumes. Anyway, I don't collect them and mine long ago broke, but thanks for the memory!

Hi, Linda. I have been wearing souvenir "Indian" belts every day since I picked one up on a lark 10 years ago at a shop in the Denver airport. On a recent trip to Scottsdale, AZ I picked up a dozen size 36". They came bundled in shrink wrap (direct from China) and the shop owner let me have them for $6 or $7 a piece. They've all started to unravel now and I am desperately trying to find the name of the store in which I purhcased them. Any suggestions on where I could turn to find a serious supply? I'm actually looking for a supplier/importer but am having no luck...

Anyway, I have many old belts but they are just the flying eagle design, not the names of landmarks... Interested?

If you are looking for beaded belts I may be able to help you. I live in South Dakota and make them on custom order.

I have never actually seen a "souvenir" beaded belt before. If they need to be fixed or you want me to create one please email at newleykartak48@hotmail.com

I just got off the phone with a souvenir shop at Wisconsin Dells. She said she has worked there five years and has never seen a beaded belt for sale in any of the shops. If you can't buy one at the Dells, good luck anywhere.
