It is hard to believe that in the 93 years of my life, I have never seen the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington D.C. That is all about to change! We have out plane tickies, swank digs, nice pants for Deke, a place to park Buddy, and we are good to go. We just have to wait a few weeks until the blossoms are in full bloom.Any suggestions on places to dine, shop and see while we are there?????

I'm a transplant from the midwest who now lives in the DC metro. My two favorite restaurants in DC are Matchbox--yummy, unique pizzas, and a big fire pit on the roof and Rosa Mexicano--they make the Guacamole at your table. YUM. They are both near Gallery Place Metro...and the spy museum. My absolute favorite museum is the American Art/Portrait Gallery.

Are you sure you are 93? Please go see the WWII memorial....my Dad's name should be on/in it...he was a fighter pilot. I have not seen it but maybe someday I will get there.
Awww, I'm jealous. You're the second person I know that's going to D.C. The former is going back to visit friends and family. Are you going back for cherry blossom season? Oh, take lots of pics. I luvre cherry blossoms :D. Have a safe trip!
It's been about 93 years since I've lived there, so I'm sure it's changed a lot.
I'm sure you'll go to Arlington, but the homes and shops in Wilmington are wonderful, too. My son's band marched there in the Cherry Blossom Festival years ago. It was 105 degrees on the asphalt!!! Kids were dropping like flies! Willard Scott was the grand marshall....I'll never forget that trip.

Some favorite restaurants are the Bistrot du Coin and the Lebanese Taverna. I'm pretty sure they both have websites.
A visit to the Phillips Collection is a must! If you're there for the 1st thursday of the month they have live music and food and drinks from 5:30-8:30. Also stroll around the Dupont Circle area which is where the Phillips is located.
All the Smithsonian museums are awesome some favorites are the National Gallery, Portrait Gallery, American Art Museum...... They're all great so I'll stop here.

We were there last August, so you can scope out my blog to see some of the highlights. One of the restaurants I love is Cafe Mozart. It is a little German restaurant that has been there forever. It is located near the white house. We really liked the Holocaust museum...very moving. Also, the food in the National Gallery of Art was excellent. They had a huge food court with food from all around the world, plus a cappuccino and gelato bar. YUM.
