Misgivings (Missed Giving)
Do you lose gifts that you have squirreled away for the holidays? When I find a gift during the year I store it in my "prize closet" and retrieve it for the holidays. Unfortunately, I always seem to lose something in the closet. I am currently tearing the house up looking for a sock monkey, a gold Richard Nixon pin covered in faux pearls and a signed book. I only have five days to find them, yikes!!!!

Yes, only I forget all about them! I've come across things I've stashed away for the kids months after Christmas...
I hope you find your missing items!
At least you remember what you've bought!! I have several locations with gifts squirreled away from the kids, and yesterday while moving furniture I found one cache I had completely forgotten about. And then in my late-night, last-minute panic wrapping teacher gifts I found another very helpful stash that solved the second panic about gifts for my kids' friends. Whew!
EVERY YEAR! You'd think I'd develop a better system by now...
This post just reminded me. I found the perfect gift for my folks at a flea market this past summer...a tin plate with mules embossed into it and Browns under each mule. I think it was for tobacco. Well my folks name is Brown and they have 8 donkeys...I packed it away for Christmas...How could I have forgotten? Fed Ex, here I come.
Peace,
Ki
This happens to me all the time. Every year I say I'm not going to squirrel gifts away. I'm going to put them in one place. But then I forget where that one place is!
I do this every Christmas... for years now. It scares me :)!
I have a prize closet, too! It's sort of spread between two cabinets in my laundry room - surely a place that Veto and the kids would never enter (hmph!).
I'll have to tell my mother about this, she is convinced she is the only one who does this. She bought 20 boxes of candy when they were on sale a few months ago and had to hide them so she wouldn't eat them. Now that it's time to give them away, she can't find them...
In order to lose them, I would have had to have been on the ball enough to get them early! I still have shopping to do!
I totally can relate to this! I hope you find them!! xo
What a cute post! I've absolutely done this before. I have even bought the same or similar gifts twice for the same person.
I hope you find what you're looking for!
Happy holidays,
Holly
Good luck! I've stopped hiding things, because I can NEVER remember where I put them. If I absolutely have to hide something I've started telling friends what I've hidden & where....so at least I have a back up.
Well, at least you only have to search all over your house and not all over town for something you WANT to buy. I ordered so much on line this year, I am totally lost as to what is coming from where and what hasn't gotten here yet and what has, and what I had sent to other places, etc. I don't have your problem cuz I get too excited about what I find for people, I can't hold onto things long without giving it to them or telling them about it. I'm pretty good at keeping secrets, just not gift secrets.
You'll have to try the St. Anthony trick. Do you know about this? You say, "St. Anthony, St. Anthony, please look around, (blank) really needs to be found." It has worked for me every single time I've used it. My 17 year old son is also a true believer. Years ago he asked the teacher that told him about it how that trick worked exactly - "does he just help you find it or does he put it somewhere he knows you'll end up looking?" he asked. Now, that's faith. We used it just a couple of weeks ago to find my mom-in-laws diamond bracelet and we found it in the back yard. How it got there we have no idea.
Oh well, good luck!
Early this year, my husband came in holding a Hallmark ornament in a box. He said it had fallen on his head in the closet. As you probably know, most Hallmark ornaments are dated. This was one of his Christmas presents, from 2005! I had forgotten even its existence. I hope you have better luck locating your missing!
Yup! My hubby found a huge plastic baseball bat, all wrapped up. It wouldn't have been a problem to give it to one of our sons had it not been a Christmas gift from 20 years ago!?@?#! I don't know what happened to it, but I wouldn't be surprised if it reappears under the tree whenever we have a grandchild. LOL!
Sweet Wishes,
Sara
