The Sweet Smell Of A Dank Basement

I recently found this large handmade ornament at an estate sale. I love handmade treasures like this and they are always found in the basement at estate sales. The basement is the treasure trove, the place for old wrapping paper, holiday decorations, ephemera and photographs. I know by the smell of the house if I will have a fruitful search. There is a certain mustiness that is present in the best estate sale homes. Ahh the sweet, sweet smell of dankness.

Oohh! Pretty! I am glad you found it to let it be seen instead of tucked away in some dark place!

Unfortunately, our basement has all the smell and none of the goodies. Great find!

Those are the kind of estate sales that elicit a little happy dance on the way back out to the car!

The older parts of town typically yield the most treasures. I also enjoy the church rummage sales!!

Happy hunting,
Teresa

I always go directly to the basements and garages, you are right, that is where the fun stuff is!

I hate to admit that the very word, "dank" conjurs visions of the divine hunt... I had occasion many years ago to go on such an excavation of a basement in the old Queen Anne home of a childless couple (only the woman survived) who devoted their lives to the aquisition of stuff. A Titanic book, written days after the sinking, the straw hat the woman wore to the shore the day her husband proposed. Marbles and a baseball that I suppose he had owned in his childhood and had probably held onto for the son he never had. The enormous black onyx ring that she must have wore when she felt very full of herself (and so do I). Yep, the treasures ARE in the dank...the divine... the basement! Your ornament is wonderful.
