Beautiful bird pin presented to first lady after signing of WWI peace treaty.
The Obamas are taking very good care of their new home.
Pandas are cute, I mean really cute!!! We watched Tubby Ping Ling pound a forest of bamboo,
and then we ran to the nearest gift shop for the stuffed version.

I love Washington D.C.!!!! I hadn't been to Washington since Taft was in office, and the city is so much lovelier than I had remembered. We stayed in swanky Georgetown, perhaps the cutest city ever!!! I discovered a wonderful resale shop that had the feeling of rummaging through the Smithsonian basement. Imagine shelves brimming with miniature portraits, antique china, silver, and American pottery, it was amazing.
Besides having a wonderful vacation, we all came to pivotal decisions in our lives. Deke wants to be a spy after visiting the Spy Museum six times in one week! Lulu is officially preppy and wants to attend Georgetown University. I would love a job working in the White House as Social Secretary or the newly invented Secretary of Thriftiness. It is my hope that I can start decorating my historic Georgetown home very soon with all of the finds from the resale shop!

Sounds like you had a good time. Did you bring home any treasures?
Fantastic!! Hope you get your dream job as Secretary of Thriftiness, you would be great.
I only live like 2 hours away from DC, I have GOT to take a visit there! I haven't vacationed there since Clinton was in office.
I love that pin, by the way; it's so lovely! I hope you'll post some pictures of your souvenirs!
Oooohhh, isn't it fun to include a side stop to a thrift store on your adventure? Great pix!
Good luck in your new career...you've been preparing for it all your life.. Have you seen the new first pooch! xo Joan
My sister has a Portuguese Water Dog, there go the rugs!!! I hope they don't let Bo in the Lincoln Bedroom.
What a blast--I love that the Smithsonian is free--and so many fun treasures stashed there!
So cool! We lived in DC for two years as newlyweds and I LOVED IT! So much cool stuff to see.
I love your pictures, and now I want to go on my own spy mission--to your resale shop!
Ok, I'm sold. Booking my next trip to Washington DC! Glad you had fun.
Hmmm...sounds like you are having fun! Where is this amazing resale shop, I live in MD and work in DC, and I'd love to visit it myself...
What a fun trip! I lived there briefly during the Clinton era and you make it sound even better than my fond memories! I think the overnight train from our Union Station to theirs would be fun. Welcome back.
