I love the May Day tradition of leaving little baskets of flowers for friends and family. When I was in kindergarten, I remember making paper cones and filling them with flowers. I would attach ribbon to the cones, and leave them hanging from doorknobs on May 1st.Gone are the May Day picnics, parades, maypole dances, and all of the other wonderful traditions surrounding this day. I wonder why this holiday fell out of favor? It is perhaps the loveliest way to celebrate Spring.

I love seeing the maypole dance, but we always tangled it all up when we tried it in school!
I love this day too. I miss celebrating it in France, with a bouquet of muguets!

When I was in grade school we did the whole maypole thing on the playgound. Someone always "messed up".
It is a shame. I move we bring it back.

Our elementary school gym teacher had a maypole that she brought out for us to play, I loved it!

I agree. I miss May Day. We used to make little gifts out of the green plastic boxes strawberries used to come in. We'd weave in colored paper strips and fill the basket with candy and flowers. I loved finding the surprises our nice neighbor ladies would leave us. I'd leave one for you if I lived nearby. Happy May Day!

Thank you for posting that memory...I, too, made the cones and filled them with flowers and candy for my friends. That was in Iowa.
I thought of it a couple times this year...next year, I'm giong to do it!
