Jessie Willcox Smith

Jessie Willcox Smith (1863-1935) was a prolific American illustrator for Good Housekeeping, Ladies Home Journal and Collier's Weekly. Jessie illustrated Charles Kingsley's odd fairytale The Water-Babies in 1916.
I keep hoping I will find a first edition of this book at an estate sale or junk store for $1.00!

L'Shanah Tovah Tikatevu to all of my friends celebrating Rosh Hashanah.

Love that you educate us on artists, especially female artists. This looks like an interesting book. I will look for it for you when I am shopping.

I just read Lulu's blog. She is charming and quite intelligent. I died laughing at her juicer experience.

I don't know what it is about the green color that turns them off. I use fresh spinach. It doesn't have a bitter taste. I put it with other things like fruit and yogurt. Really good and packed with nutrients.

I hope you find that book too--I always get hopeful that I'll find a first edition of something wonderful somewhere sometime...

Linda,
I too love old books and illustrations! I have spent all morning trying to find a publishing date on two very old children's books that I have. One is by Randolph Caldecott and the other is one with illustrations from Stewart Orr. Both are in poor condition but I love them both. Maybe I will scan and blog about them so you can see them.

I always keep my out for the "sister" book to this one, Air Babies by Elvy Kalep... I have yet to see it. It does have a forward by Amelia Earhart. That's why it is on my list.
