Irving Penn
These photos were taken by Irving Penn over 60 years ago. If I did not look like such a schlump, I would try to emulate these styles now, I think they would look so modern today! I am going to get the darkest matte red lipstick and liquid eyeliner first thing in the morning.

what great photos!! Cutting edge for sixty years ago!! Love that you come up with this!!
Your Pal,
Jules
I use liquid eyeliner every day but still feel like a shlump when I see photos like that. So glam!
We are checking Monday morning about flight availability for Loopy - I haven't told her yet. I will let you know as soon as I find out what the scoop is! Just dying to bring her with me. We have a long history with AG Place you know. Funny Canadians.
I love that look too. I remember trying on my grandmother's netted hats when I was a kid.
The clohes are great, but ooohhhh, I just want the waists that are in them! ;0)
As you probably already know, I enjoy your blog and I have even given you a blog award. Stop by when you get a chance and pick it up!

Take Care!
I want the netting also... except I think I'd look like a trussed turkey... but I'd be seasonal..
Love the round patent leather purse, that would fit with my body type...
The gloves. The hats. The eyebrows. *sigh* I'd love to look like this!
Penn's photography..... Gads I MISS the whole 'black and white' world. Perry Mason in color...DISASTER! Ted (Turner) and his bright ideas to colorize the old movies.... WRONG!!! Some things just SING in black and white, and Irving Penn just knocks my socks off! Great post! Not to mention those incredible designs... ooooh, aaaawwww!

Maybe a 'look' for the Inagural Ball?
Left my extra "U" out of "inaugural" and pushed the "publish" button... sorry!
these are wonderful!! I must run down to Powell's Books and find a book of his photos, inspiration for painting and life. Those little hat nets are life fishnets for the face, guaranteed to make us look flawless :) and distract from my crookedly applied liquid liner...
OOOH can we pay dress up and then go tot the Drake for High Tea one day? T'would be a hoot!!!
:)
See you on the 13th. Are you still going? Please do. We can run amuck at the event together.
I love her coat so much in the first photo, I think it might look a little odd on me! I'm pretty sure the second photo is by Richard Avedon not Irving Penn though
